As Catholics, we live out our faith life in a most special way through the seven Sacraments of the Church. A Sacrament is an outward and visible sign, instituted by Christ, to confer God’s inward and visible grace. The Sacraments offer us a way to further develop and celebrate our relationship with Jesus throughout our faith lives.
Baptism is one of the Sacraments of Initiation and is the first Sacrament we receive. In this Sacrament, the church welcomes new members into the Body of Christ. Baptism frees us from sin and calls us to take part in the building of God’s kingdom here on earth.
A Baptismal preparation class is required for parents with infants or children age 7 and under. The sessions are designed to give parents an opportunity to better understand the Sacrament and reflect on their own faith as they contemplate celebrating the baptism of their child. These preparation classes are held once a quarter or on and as needed basis. Baptisms are scheduled during weekend liturgies throughout the year, except during the Lenten season.

Baptism and the other Sacraments of Initiation are received together through the Right of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). This is a process that builds on the spirituality of adults to come to Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at Easter. By uncovering the relevance of faith in our daily lives, we build a long-term basis for meaning and joy. Those seeking these Sacraments of Initiation will meet on a weekly basis from September to Easter to study our human experiences in the light of the Bible, the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Sacraments we celebrate together.
